Description
The variety was created in 1957 by Dr. Ferenc Király by crossing Kéknyelű and Budai Zöld. Originally called Badacsony 36, it got its modern name from the legendary Rózsakő ('rose stone', a flat basalt stone) located on the Badacsony mountain. According to the story, Róza Szegedy and Sándor Kisfaludy spent a lot of time sitting on this stone, and perhaps their love story unfolded here: according to legend, a couple in love who sits down on this stone will marry that same year...
The variety was accepted onto the national list of approved varieties in December, 2003. It was primarily intended as a pollinator of Kéknyelű, but it is a real treasure in its own right. Our Rózsakő is made using a reductive process to preserve the freshness of the acids and the fleeting notes of cucumber, lily, and papaya.
